At Farm School, Becky writes about "family, books, food, classical home education, books, journeys, music, books, thoughts, movies, and books." She shares details of her family’s life on a farm in Canada, and her experiences in reading with and homeschooling her three elementary school-age children.
Becky also writes well-researched posts about topics like adding poetry to your life, the importance of history as story, and a host of other interesting subjects. Becky is a member of the 2007 middle grade and young adult non-fiction nominating committee.
Becky recently reviewed We Are One: The Story of Bayard Rustin, by Larry Dane Brimner, nominated in this year’s MG/YA non-fiction category. As is customary with Becky’s reviews, she includes context and links to other related resources. She says:
"We Are One is a strikingly designed book, inspired by the celebrated March on Washington poster (below) by artist Louis Lo Monaco, complete with matching color scheme and artful torn edging used for sidebars within the volume to highlight photograph captions, quotations, and lyrics from the Negro spirituals and gospel hymns that Rustin sang."
However, she also notes:
As I was admiring the look of the book, clean, spare, and sophisticated, I found myself wondering exactly for whom this picture book biography is meant.
