Today we meet Jen Robinson, our official Cybils Literacy Evangelist:
I’m Jen Robinson, and I’ve been blogging for nearly 3 years at Jen Robinson’s Book Page. My blog is dedicated to
helping parents, teachers, and librarians to encourage kids to enjoy books. To that end, I publish mostly book reviews (picture books through young adult) and literacy and reading news.
I also publish a weekly Growing Bookworms email newsletter with this content, and I will be a regular contributor to a new children’s book blog that PBS Parents is starting this winter.
My blog is a part-time, volunteer effort, something that I do because I think that it’s essential that all kids have the opportunity to grow up loving books. In my "day job", I have a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, and co-own a small software firm that works with computer chip manufacturers. While there is not much overlap between my work and my blog, I do find that both allow me to practice my writing and marketing skills.
I’ve been involved with the Cybils administrative team since the first year, and have also been a judge for the middle grade and young adult fiction categories. This year, I’m planning to be a judge in the new early reader category, because I think that having excellent books for this age range is important in raising readers.
I’m originally from Lexington, MA, and I live now in San Jose, CA. I remain a dedicated Red Sox fan.
