Janssen Bradshaw of Everyday Reading, a Round 1 judge for Nonfiction Picture Books, is our featured blogger for the day. She's been blogging since 2006, she's a onetime elementary school librarian who lives in Austin with her husband and young daughter, and she loves blogging about books and food. Fun Fact: She's also a regular contributor of posts about parenting to the Disney Baby blog.
Last year around this time, Janssen reviewed an NFPB nominee that's just perfect for Thanksgiving: Balloons over Broadway: The True Story of the Puppeteer of Macy's Parade by Melissa Sweet. Tony Sarg, who invented the puppets we all know and love, gets his due in this lively and informative picture book. Janssen says in her review:
It's fun to watch Sarg move from his original field of specialty in
marionettes and puppets into something that has become so famous. As usual, Sweet's illustrations are fabulous; I find her illustrations
to be so lively, so happy, and so full of color and texture.
