Easy readers and early chapter books are the bridge between listening to stories and taking off on one’s own adventures as an independent reader.
The best ones offer new readers the chance to “model” the person who read picture books to them. They also create new opportunities to bond through reading aloud together.
We’re kicking off our first See Me Read Thursday with some colorful books. You may know the Princess in Black, but have you met the Prince in Pink? And for the fans of glam and glitter, Zoya and Coco are sure to brighten your day.

EASY READER
Zoya loves to make art with her puppy, Coco. It is a perfect day to paint outside -- until it begins to rain! Zoya and Coco rush back inside with their art supplies. But together - and with a splash of glitter - they find creative ways to brighten the gray day.
Kirsten @ Goodreads – This is a delightful early reader for kids who love art and glitter. The text reads easily with all of the descriptive onomatopoeic words such as drip, drip and splish, splash emphasized in bold. The illustrations take center stage, occupying most of each page, while the words are at the bottom. The vivid colors mirror Zoya’s lively personality, making it an enchanting and entertaining read for any young child.
EARLY CHAPTER BOOK
Princess Magnolia is at the Flower Festival prepping for the evening ball when suddenly she hears a commotion. Oh no! She isn’t prepared to fight a monster or . . . a grumpy emu! To her surprise, a knight in shining armor comes to the rescue, but not before the princess’s prized decorations are stomped on and destroyed. Expect the unexpected!
Cindy on behalf of Kiss the Book Jr., review by Lisa the Librarian – Hale and Pham have the most wonderful ideas! I love this series, and AJ is just now the perfect age to love it too. We like that the stories are unpredictable and the heroes are clever. The illustrations are so fun, we loved that the Prince in Pink wore a tiara and his catchword was flourish. It’s OK for boys to like sparkles, wear pink and be great at putting the finishing touches on things. Delightful!
