A lifelong reader, some of Stephanie’s most vivid memories from her childhood are centered around books including: volunteering in her middle school library, curling up with a great book on a rainy day, trying not to run into walls while walking with a book in front of her face, and sharing books with her best friends at recess. Having worked in libraries since high school, Stephanie has worked as a youth services librarian and as a tween and teen librarian specialist before moving onto becoming a public library director. Last year, Stephanie transitioned to a new position working as a district Library Media Specialist. Every school day, Stephanie is surrounded by 7-12 grade students, teaching across the curriculum and modeling a love of reading. Some of her proudest professional experiences has been serving on Young Adult Library Services Association’s national award committees including serving as 2019 Odyssey Award Committee’s Chair, apart of the 2017 Michael L. Printz Award Committee (best young adult literary book) and the 2015 Odyssey Award Committee. She also reviews books and audiobooks for several journal publications. When not reading or at work, Stephanie loves spending time with her husband, 12-year-old daughter and two cats. Stephanie is thrilled to be back for participating in CYBILS for the sixth year; in the past having served and chaired the YA Nonfiction category, the Nonfiction category as a judge, the Audiobook category chair and has recently stepped in as President. This year, she is looking forward to beginning her blog again after being on blackout for almost four years. You can find her on Twitter and Instagram at @scharle4.
