Today’s featured review looks at Elementary/Middle Grade Graphic Novel finalist Roller Girl by Victoria Jamieson, a Newbery Honor Book which has been described as a great read for kids who loved Smile by Raina Telgemaier. The review is from NoHigh5 News, the blog of Massachusetts 5th grade teacher and Apple Distinguished Educator Mike Lewis. His blog is just one of many ways he brings innovations in technology (and reading recommendations) into the classroom. One of his posts last year was an excellent in-depth review of Roller Girl:
“Roller Girl utilizes the graphic format in clever service of its complex emotional narrative. It’s every bit as fun and humorous as it is serious and honest. The art and coloring is accessible without sacrificing depth and beauty.“
