Karen Yingling, a middle school librarian, is new to the Cybils this year, but she's been blogging about books for MG and YA readers–especially boy readers–since 2006 at Ms. Yingling Reads. She reads voraciously (as proven by her "Voracious Reader" blog merit badge) and reviews lots of fantasy and sci-fi, with some realistic fiction and other genres thrown in here and there, too.
Recently she reviewed Cybils Middle Grade Fantasy & Sci-Fi nominee Boom! by Mark Haddon, author of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. This science-fiction adventure is packed with plenty of humor and madcap action, with some saving-the-world thrown in. In her review, Karen says:
A nice short read with amusing characters and a fast-paced alien invasion plot, this will be perfect for my 8th grade students who need a science fiction book.
