Today's featured blogger can truly be called a superwoman of children's literacy resources and a font of in-depth reviews for parents and teachers. Terry Doherty of Scrub-A-Dub Tub is a longtime Cybils advocate and a champion of kids' books for all ages. Her site includes literacy and reading news, literacy resources, and reviews categorized by format, audience and genre.
Just last week, Terry took a look at Cybils Early Chapter Book nominee Word After Word After Word by Patricia MacLachlan, a book that brings to life "the fun of reading and the magic qualities of words." She says that this title would make a great read-aloud, and contains a story kids will relate to:
What I love about the book is how it shows that writing can be both a shared experience and a very personal one. At the end of each chapter, one of the characters shares his/her writing contribution to the class. The kids’ lives are center stage, yet through Ms. Mirabel’s skillful hand they (and we) understand more about the writing process.
