Doret Canton of the Happy Nappy Bookseller blog is one of our Round I judges for Nonfiction/Information Picture Books this year. As you might have guessed, Doret's a bookseller, and she contributes as well to the blog Color Online, which highlights work by women writers of color.
Doret is also a baseball fan, and one of the Cybils nominees she looked at was a baseball-themed title: Henry Aaron's Dream by Matt Tavares, the story of the early life of Hall-of-Famer Hank Aaron from his boyhood to his entrance into the Major League. As Doret points out,
A big part of baseball is its history, that includes the Negro Leagues. The author doesn't gloss over Henry Aaron's years with the Indianapolis Clowns.
