Karen Ball, one of our Round I judges for Middle Grade/Young Adult Nonfiction, is a middle school teacher in Connecticut. She blogs at Mrs. B's Favorites, where she reviews a plethora of books for the MG and YA age group.
She's been going strong with a whole slew of reviews of nominated NFMG/YA titles, including Candy Bomber: The Story of the Berlin Airlift's "Chocolate Pilot" by Michael O. Tunnell. It's the story of pilot Gail Halvorsen and his efforts to reach the hearts and minds of the suffering children in 1948 West Berlin. Karen's review states:
This is the story of kindness, thoughtfulness, and someone who saw a need, and did something about it — even if it started as only two sticks of gum. Everyone should read this.
