I can hardly believe that we haven't yet featured our tireless Fiction Picture Books category organizer yet, in our series of reviews by Cybils bloggers, but evidently it's true. Pam Coughlan, aka Mother Reader, is hilarious, energetic, and well-known around the kidlitosphere for her fun recurring blog features like the 48-Hour Book Challenge and Bloggers Against Celebrity Authors.
Earlier this year, Pam reviewed Cybils nominee 1000 Times No, written and illustrated by Tom Warburton. Noah, the young nattering nabob of negativism who is the book's featured character, is a typical toddler. His mom asks him something, he says no. Not only that, he says Non, Nyet, and Negative. And he doesn't stop there:
As mother urges, the boy's responses continue in the negative, but now in cowboy, Inuit, Arabic, Japanese, robot, Hindi, Greek, Dutch, Zulu, and more, escalating to an entire chorus of every form of the word we've seen in one resounding "NOOOOOOOOOO!"
