Hey, anyone out there doing NaNoWriMo? Don't tell me you've no idea what I'm talking about. You're doing it, right? Or you started your magnum opus last year, didn't finish, and are wondering if it's worth dusting off … Okay, that's where I'm at. About 40,000 words in and losing faith.
Please tell me you're not as pathetic.
Two items for ya:
1. This contest here promises to take a look at your first 250 words. They seem legit and haven't asked for any fees (or I'd never plug them) but I make no guarantees. If you win, you get a pitch meeting with a literary agent and some free writing classes in NYC. Note it's only for YA books.
2. Whether you enter the above contest or not, send me your NaNoWriMo blurb! C'mon, you need the practice pitching your stuff anyway. Think up a 50-word blurb — pretend you're writing it for, say, Amazon or your own jacket flap — and I'll run them during November right here on this blog. Send blurbs to Cybils09 (at) gmail (dot) com.
And I'll take either YA or MG books, including graphic novels, Science Fiction & Fantasy, anything you want to send my way so long as it's for older kids.
If I get a lot, I'll run them in batches and you can leave encouraging comments for the authors. And, no, I won't run the 51st word, or the 52nd … 50's the limit.
Remember, my blurb thingee is separate from the "250 words" contest. Their link again is here.
