As some of you know, I lost my mother to breast cancer last summer. I’m still too downhearted to participate in Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and there’s only so much pink I can force myself to wear when I still have the blues.
But I’m peeping out of my shell for writer and illustrator Grace Lin, who recently lost her husband, Robert Mercer, to a rare form of cancer. Grace and Robert had started a charity called Robert’s Snow, which auctions off snowflakes hand-decorated by celebrated children’s illustrators to benefit the Jimmy Fund of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
This year, kidlit bloggers are teaming up to promote Robert’s Snowflakes and pique your interest in bidding. We’ve all picked a favorite illustrator and his or her snowflake to feature on our blogs. Many are whimsical, some are inspiring, and all are gorgeous.
In the right column, below the logo, you’ll see this week’s list of postings. This is meant to be fun, even with a serious purpose, and I hope you’ll be entertained and awed enough to bid on a snowflake.
