The net is buzzing with news of The Cybils. Here’s what the internet has to say:
- Susan at Northern Suburban Library Systems immediately makes the blogging connection, writing “Congratulations to the group of bloggers who have diligently read and voted on the 2006 best children’s books. They just announced (on a blog, of course) their top choices in nine categories.” Live by the blog, announce by the blog!
- The Orlando Sentinel Parenting blog was one of the first to spread the word. Sandra writes, “It looks like these dedicated bloggers put a lot of work into the new award, and let’s hope it’s a success next year.” We hope so too, Sandra!
- Raincoast Books is thrilled An Egg Is Quiet took top honors in the Poetry category.
- Our favorite Bookseller Chick celebrates Valentine’s Day and Ptolemy’s Gate’s victory in the Fantasy/Science Fiction category.
- Stefan, who knows what it takes to put an awards process together, gives us some props at Zooglobble.
- The ever-smart and sophisticated Gwenda Bond reports the winners and echoes our call to buy via The Cybils at Shaken and Stirred.
- The Science Fiction Book Club calls our awards unusual at The Bookblogger.com, but I’m sure it’s meant in all the best ways.
- The NCBLA (The National Children’s Book and Literary Alliance) gives us a shoutout on their new blog. Thanks!
- And a gigantic thanks to Ron of Mediabistro GalleyCat. He reported our news even though the awards were for children’s and YA literature. We appreciate you, Ron!
- The graphic novel community has a lot to say: MangaBlog.net likes our choices, even if there is no manga on the list and Journalista: the weblog of The Comics Journal announces the winners.
- SF Signal congratulates Ptolemy’s Gate (okay, if you haven’t read this book, it’s time)
- The LA blog—LA Observed—included us in their Morning Buzz post.
- And, happily, writers are responding! Joyce Sidman, winner of the Poetry award, posted the honor on her writer’s site. And, E. Lockhart congratulates her friends and fellow YA friends, Rachel Cohn and David Levithan, on their win in the YA category.
- Finally, thanks to the many members of the Kidlitosphere, 2006 Cybils participants and not, who have posted about the award, and supported our call for people to buy books. There are too many posts to list, but we are deeply grateful to you all. Thanks!
